Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and she also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in American history. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and as an United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her sharp questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
