Stause was born in Draffenville. She earned her degree from Murray State University with a B.A. She started performing in theater in 2003. The name she chose for her middle name "Chrishell" which is which is a portmanteau of her name, is a result of the unusual circumstances under the birthing process: her mother gave birth in a Shell station. Chris, an attendant was present to assist in the delivery of her baby. Strause has, however, denied any gossip about her birth. She said that her mother was experiencing issues with her car and stopped at a gas station. While waiting at the car station, she went into pre-labor, and the attendant at the car genuinely helped her to reach an emergency room. Strause was delivered in an in-hospital. Her mother, who was half Japanese/half Spanish was divorced before she knew she was pregnant. Jeff is her stepfather. Chrishell Strause missed middle school for a whole year due to the fact that she had to live in the tent. Strause described her experience of taking her hair to the river and hiding from her peers and how she was dependent on food stamps. When she was 10years old, parents battled mental illness and addiction. She joined the Worldwide Church of God for some period of time. Strause says Strause as a self-confident, self-righteous woman who never had a steady job.
